Wonka
In case you’re wondering, the answer is ‘Yes,’ the Willy Wonka Candy Company is named after the very same Willy Wonka found in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. Now, if you haven’t read the book, we implore you do so immediately – no candy for you until your reading is done! The Wonka brand started in 1971 to coincide with the release of the ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ film.Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was a wonderful book, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was an excellent film…so what about Willy Wonka Candy Company? Does it live up to its lineage? It’s a lot to live up to and we sure think Wonka candy does justice to its namesake. Spree, NERDS, Runts, SweeTarts, Gobstoppers, Pixy Sticks, Bottlecaps, Laffy Taffy and more…we couldn’t pick a favorite one, not even for a Golden Ticket!
Are nerds cool? Wouldn’t that be an oxymoron? Nope, Wonka made all NERDS cool. Can something be sweet and tart? Is that possible? Yes, Wonka calls them SweeTarts. We could on and on about all of Wonka’s deliciously different brands of candy, but there are just too many and we get way too excited…kind of like a kid in Chocolate Factory!
Interesting Fact: Quaker Oats Company, who had no previous Hollywood experience, brought the rights to the book and financed the movie as a means to introduce their new Quaker Oats ‘Wonka Bar.’
