Jelly Belly

Jelly Belly beans were created in 1976 by David Klein. His first flavors were Very Cherry, Tangerine, Lemon, Green Apple, Licorice, Cream Soda, Root Beer and Grape Jelly. What was so different about these jelly beans? Jelly Belly Beans were the first jelly beans made with natural flavorings and what makes them so tasty is that the yummy flavor is in both the candy shell and in the jelly center.

There are currently 50 official flavors or Jelly Belly beans, far too many to name here. There are also a number of ‘rookie’ flavors that can be added to the official list if they prove to be popular enough. Our favorite Rookie flavors are Grape Crush, Orange Crush, Honey Bean and Mojito!

President Ronald Reagan was perhaps Jelly Belly’s biggest fan. During his presidency Jelly Belly beans could be found in the Oval Office, on Air Force One and on Marine One. However the most awesome place Jelly Belly beans were found was aboard the Challenger Space Shuttle; Jelly Belly beans made it to outer space as a presidential gift to the astronauts! Its official, Jelly Bellies are truly out of this world!

With so many flavors and colors to choose from Jelly Belly beans are just the perfect candy for candy buffets or candy favors at weddings or special events. However make sure that you order enough! Note that 1 pound of Jelly Belly beans equals approx. 2 cups of candy. The trick we recommend you use is to fill a measuring cup with water and then see how much water it takes to fill your containers and/or favors up. After that you’ll be able to calculate how many pounds of Jelly Belly beans you need.

Fun Fact: Jelly Belly produces more than 37 million pounds of Jelly Belly beans annually.
