Banana
A few weeks ago, I took a cruise with three of my girlfriends. I was looking forward to it but I had one concern. I have an obsession with bananas. I eat around six a day. Would I have access to the delicious taste of bananas while on the cruise? I really wasn’t sure so I made alternate plans. I showed up at the Port in Galveston with eight pieces of luggage. But my friends didn’t ask any questions because everyone was so excited about our vacation. As the ship left the port, we waved goodbye to dry land and celebrated with tropical drinks and relaxed as we headed to Mexico with 3,000 other passengers. Along the way, I snuck pieces of banana candy into my mouth so I wouldn’t have to share with anyone. But then something happened. Did the ship just lose power? It did! Initially, we didn’t think much of it. Surely this wouldn’t last long. The boat was a little rocky since the motor was off but we had a good time anyway. On day two, the power was still out and food seemed scarce, the plumbing wasn’t working, and we were still adrift in the Gulf of Mexico. By day three, people we agitated, bored, and hungry. Would I have to share my Banana Candy with these people? Just then, a little girl next to me started to cry because her mom was out of her favorite snacks. I reached into my pocket, pullet out a piece of Banana Laffy Taffy and handed it to her. She smiled and that made me feel good. But that would only be the beginning…
I was suddenly surrounded by what seemed like hundreds of people! I wanted to be selfish, but instead I admitted to having more and went to my cabin to unload the candy. At first, I made a stash for my friends that included Banana Split Original Gourmet Lollipops, Top Banana Jelly Belly beans, and Strawberry Banana Gummy Rings. I took the remaining candy up to the pool deck, stood on a platform, and tossed candy into the crowd. They cheered with joy as I threw Strawberry Banana Taffy, Banana Splits, Banana Candy Sticks, and Banana Now and Later candy. I was the most popular person on the ship!
Although the conditions on board were awful and we had to wait hours to be towed into Mobile, Alabama, everyone was pretty happy. After all, we chewed banana candy until we finally docked. We never made it to Mexico, but I along with the other passengers have a pending lawsuit worth millions. I will use my share to buy enough candy to last me a lifetime.
