Pastel Candy

I’ve always loved pastel. I wear it every single day without fail. I think it brings out my eyes and my husband thinks so too. We have a daughter, Misty, who is grown now, but let me tell you…she was a great muse for my obsession with pastel colors even before she was born. When I had my baby shower, everything was pastel including the candy buffet.

We had all pastel candy including pink Puffy Poles, pink and yellow Jordan Almonds, light pink M&Ms, Lavender Gumballs, and Cotton Candy Jelly Belly beans. We had a pink and yellow cake and I even wore a cute pastel pink and yellow polka dot dress to match! After Misty was born, she was surrounded by pastel colors too. Her entire room was all light pink with light yellow accents. It was so amazing. I only dressed her in pastels too. They brought out her eyes just like mine. But then something happened…

When Misty turned five, she started throwing tantrums every time she had to get dressed. And I mean in the floor, kicking, and screaming tantrums that would make the neighbors really question my parenting. Misty had decided she never wanted to wear another pastel color again and to keep the peace I gave in. But it was awful. From that day forward, Misty only wore camouflage pants with t-shirts, or all black or grey, and sometimes even red! When she was a teenager, she painted her room navy blue and even wore red lipstick. What was she trying to do to me?

After Misty graduated and moved out of the house, we made peace. I no longer try to force pastel colors upon her. She’s married now anyway and pregnant with my granddaughter. Well just yesterday, I attended her baby shower. And wouldn’t you believe it, everything was pastel pink and green! Her candy buffet was full of pastel candy like Bubble Gum Jelly Belly beans, Sour Patch Watermelon gummies, Pink and White Sticklettes, Strawberry Pufflettes, Shimmer Lime Green Candy Pearls, and Sour Patch Apples. I was shocked! And when she showed me the baby’s nursery, the room was covered in pastel shades of pink and green, and in the closet, all pastel clothes. So today, I’m buying my granddaughter a camouflage t-shirt. Just in case.
